Official CRCI Board Accreditation Curriculum
Standard Requirement (29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(1)): When portable extension ladders are used to access an upper landing surface, the ladder side rails MUST extend at least 3 feet (36 inches) above the upper landing surface.
Duty Ratings: Only Type IA (300 lbs) or Type IAA (375 lbs) heavy-duty commercial ladders are authorized for forensic roof inspections.
4:1 Math Formula: Distance from Wall = Vertical Height / 4. (For a 20-foot eave, ladder base must be 5 feet from wall line).
Angle Metric: Yields an optimal incline angle of 75.5 degrees relative to horizontal ground plane.
Trigger Height: Mandatory fall protection at 6 feet or greater on unprotected edges or steep roofs (>4:12 pitch).
PFAS Specs: Maximum arrest force 1,800 lbs; anchorage points must support 5,000 lbs per attached worker.
Low-Slope Definition: Defined strictly as roof slopes equal to or less than 2:12 (2 inches rise per 12 inches run, or <= 9.46 degrees).
Material Restrictions: Asphalt shingles are prohibited below 2:12 slope.
Minimum Slope Mandate: Commercial low-slope roofs (TPO, PVC, Mod Bit) MUST maintain positive slope of at least 1/4 inch per foot (2%).
Overflow Scuppers: Emergency scupper inverts must be placed not less than 2 inches above roof surface.
Code Definition: Standing ponding water is officially defined as water remaining on roof 48 hours or longer after rain.
Structural Weight Load: Water weighs 62.4 lbs per cubic foot (5.2 lbs per inch depth per sq ft).
Hot-Air Welding: Field seams joined using automated hot air between 800 deg F and 1,140 deg F under mechanical pressure.
Peel Test (ASTM D6392): A valid weld must exhibit Film Separation (FS)—membrane tears before fused weld seam breaks.
Thermal Capacitance Physics: Wet insulation holds significantly higher heat capacity than dry insulation, retaining solar heat long after sunset.
Protocol: Perform 1–4 hours after sunset under clear skies; verify thermal anomalies with non-destructive moisture meters or core cuts.
10' x 10' Test Square: 100 sq ft statistical sampling area marked on each directional slope; 8 to 10 hail strikes per square establishes full replacement necessity.
NEXRAD Radar: Reflectivity values exceeding 55 dBZ correlate with severe hail (1.00" - 1.75"+).
